Summary

JUANDE RAMOS was given a dramatic vote of confidence by the Tottenham board last night after chairman Daniel Levy told executives at White Hart Lane that his job is safe. Around 200 members of staff were called together for impromptu meetings yesterday afternoon to be told that Ramos has 'the full support of the board' and that the Spaniard is capable of transforming Tottenham's miserable season. Despite the Tottenham chairman's backing of the under-fire manager, it has also emerged that Levy is taking soundings from influential football figures about the current coaching structure. Levy is concerned that the club does not have an English presence in the dressing room or on the training pitch and will consider appointing another coach to work under Ramos.

The man recruited from Sevilla a year ago appointed Spanish fitness coach Marcos Alvarez and assistant manager Gus Poyet, a Uruguayan, when he replaced Dutchman Martin Jol, but the team are no longer responding to their methods. Tottenham remain bottom of the Barclays Premier League after their 2-1 defeat at Stoke City on Sunday and face Bolton, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in the next four League fixtures. Levy is expected to announce the departure of sporting director Damien Comolli when the club's record financial results are posted next week and is giving serious thought to a restructure of the coaching set-up. Ramos, who has failed to win a Premier League game this season, continues to speak a confusing mix of Spanish and English to the players. Although he appointed Poyet, a former Tottenham player, when he took the job at White Hart Lane last October, the Uruguayan's role at the club is undefined. It would cost Tottenham [pounds]4million to fire the Spaniard, but Levy intends to give Ramos every chance to make a success of his spell in north London.
