CRIME-RIDDEN communities across Scotland have been told to forget about seeing more bobbies on the beat by a senior police officer.

Clive Murray, president of the Association of Scottish Police Superintendents (ASPS), said yesterday there are 'far more important and cost-effective' activities that could be carried out.
