Summary
THE assertion that the Arab population of Palestine in 1948 had been attracted there by Jewish settlers (Letters) is nonsensical. Its appearance in Joan Peters's book From Time Immemorial, published 25 years ago, was discredited by Jewish academics (Norman Finkelstein, Noam Chomsky and later Avi Shlaim) as 'littered with propaganda, forgeries and fiction'.
