STAFFING giant Hays has been forced to axe jobs as the recruitment market has taken a dive, hit by the sharp downturn in the UK economy.

Around 400 workers (7pc of Hays' payroll) have been cut as demand for permanent staff has fallen and the usually resilient temporary market shuddered to a halt.
