SACHIN TENDULKAR was struck down by flu on the eve of yesterday's NatWest Series match in Bristol, but it was ill-judgment rather than ill-health that denied the Little Master the first hundred of his tour.

India's batting icon and the world's all-time leading one-day international run-scorer had made light of the virus and cramp in his left hand to reach 99 when he was sent on his way in controversial fashion. The 34-year-old fended off a brute of a bouncer from Andrew Flintoff and when Matthew Prior took a fine diving catch to his left, South African umpire Ian Gould raised the finger.
