'A GLITCH': that is how our laid-back, soft-touch Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill yesterday described the catalogue of blunders that allowed Brian 'the Hawk' Martin, a dangerous firearms offender, to abscond from Castle Huntly open prison, where he should never have been lodged in the first place. Martin claimed he walked out because he had not been made to feel welcome by prison staff.
Aw, diddums! In fact, Martin had no right to be placed in an open prison since he had previously absconded from one - a point on which Kenny MacAskill misled the public, having got the facts wrong.
