ALEX SALMOND will attempt to break up the United Kingdom next year by including a third option on the independence referendum ballot paper in a 'cynical' bid to get opposition backing for the vote.

The First Minister last night said he was willing to include a question on the ballot paper covering radical new powers for Holyrood which are backed by Labour, Tories and the LibDems.
