FIFTEEN people have died and 6,000 more have been struck down by salmonella poisoning linked to Spanish eggs, it emerged last night.

Despite being aware of a problem with the eggs two years ago, the Government did not ban their import and instead allowed them to be sold to the catering trade for use in mayonnaise.
