30 What is it? THE annoying advertising messages plastered across web pages. At least online companies have largely scrapped 'pop-up' ads in favour of more sophisticated messages these days.
How important is it? HUGELY. The latest figures from the Advertising Association show that internet advertising soared 42pc in the first quarter of 2007 to 648m. To put that into context, the entire advertising pie rose 3pc to 4.2bn, the biggest increase for two years. Internet advertising has already eclipsed national newspaper spending (492m) and is closing in fast on regional newspapers (705m).
