ELLIOT MORLEY'S situation graphically illustrates just how out of touch with 'ordinary' people our MPs are. He was being paid Pounds 800 monthly for mortgage interest, from which I infer that his monthly payment must have been in excess of Pounds 10,000.
One would normally need a very substantial income to be granted such a mortgage. However, it may be that 'normal' arrangements need not apply to MPs. Simply arrange a meeting with your friendly bank manager, flash your 'I'm an MP' badge to confirm that you will have absolutely no problem meeting the interest payments, courtesy of the taxpayer, and you can have a mortgage for any amount.See the full content of this document
