Summary

BRITAIN'S leading skier, Chemmy Alcott (right), secured her best ever World Cup finish seventh - in yesterday's super combined event in the Austrian resort of Reiteralm. Alcott, 24, was 11th in the downhill at the Winter Olympics in Turin. Yesterday's event was won by Marlies Schild as Austrians took the first four places. Alcott, eighth after the first run, moved up a place with an overall time of 2min 15.46sec - 1.77 seconds behind Schild.

MICHAEL WHITAKER rode like a man inspired to win the Christmas Cracker Stakes on Portofino at the Olympia Show Jumping International in London last night. Dutchman Eric Van Der Vleuten had blasted round the seven fence jump-off course on Audi's Paloma in 37.18 seconds and many thought it was all over. But Whitaker's strategy and cornercutting swept Portofino over the finishing line clear in 36.64 seconds.
