ASKIN test that can detect the early stages of Alzheimer's disease has been developed by American scientists. It works by looking for signs of inflammation in tiny skin cells. Initial results suggest it's up to 98 per cent accurate in detecting the condition.

Alzheimer's affects an estimated 40,000 people in Ireland. It occurs when tiny fragments of protein, called amyloid plaques, clump together and stick to the outside of brain cells.
