ACCORDING to the latest Global Prospects report from cebr, a leading independent commercial economics consultancy, the world economy is forecast to expand by 3.4pc in 2008 from 2007 - the lowest annual growth rate since 2003.

It forecast 3.8pc in May. It blames weaker growth in the US next year. The world's largest economy is predicted to expand 2.2pc in 2008 after rising only 1.8pc this year.
