THE libel action brought by Collins Stewart Tullett against the Financial Times has been a costly exercise for a newspaper struggling to break even in a roaring bull market which should see the Pink 'Un in the rudest of health.

Indeed, with this affair behind it Pearson, the paper's owners, might finally decide that the FT is no longer a core asset.
