It will mean having to queue twice during the weekly shop, while the price of many popular drinks will also soar under the proposals to combat Scotland's hard-drinking culture.

But the SNP plans will leave the cost of many drinks blamed for youth drunkenness and bingedrinking - such as Buckfast and alcopops - unaffected.

Those who buy alcohol from small off-licences or corner shops will not be forced to queue separately.

The proposals sparked an angry reaction last night, with claims that responsible drinkers were being treated as 'pariahs of society'.
