SHORTLY before Padraig Harrington teed off for his third round at a very wind swept Royal Birkdale on Saturday, his wife Caroline could be found in the clubhouse car park doing up every button on her waterproofs.

Even though it is now 19 years since they started dating, she still walks every hole behind the ropes at tournaments as often as family commitments allow, regardless of whether the sun is burning in the sky or - as was the case almost throughout the Open - in foul weather.
