Summary
I WAS surprised to read Ken Pitman's recollections about physical abuse at St Edmund's Boys' Home in Maidenhead (Letters). I lived at the home from 1949 to 1953, aged 12 to 16. I was never forced to pick potatoes. I was treated with care and consideration. I had been in council care since the age of five and those four years at St Edmund's were a benchmark for my future life.
I joined the RAF as a boy entrant and completed 12 years of service. I look on my life in council care with great affection, as the alternative would have been very different.See the full content of this document
