WALTER SMITH joked yesterday that a VIP seat in the Ibrox stand will be the best place to be when motormouths Peter Grant and Ally McCoist resume Old Firm hostilities across the dugouts. The Rangers boss starts his four-match SFA ban after being dismissed by referee Steve Conroy in the goalless draw at Kilmarnock a fortnight ago. Smith regularly sits upstairs for Ibrox fixtures but often appears in the dugout midway through the second half.

'I will be in the stand, so I will escape the banter of Grant and McCoist,' said Smith, who will have Ian Durrant beside him as a 'runner' or keep in touch with McCoist and Kenny McDowall by phone.
