FIONA LOONEY may lament the 'numbers game' but I'd challenge her to come up with a fairer Leaving Cert system. From the age of 12, pupils know exactly the format of the exams they will have to take for entrance into university. Plenty of students knuckle down and get the results they want. And it's usually the ones who don't study, and therefore don't do very well, who complain about the Leaving Cert.
