MOST OF us nowadays count ourselves lucky to have a job - that is, if we still have one at all. Hundreds of thousands of workers in the private sector have voluntarily agreed to wage cuts or a shorter working week in order to keep those jobs; even in the featherbedded public sector, workers have buckled under, albeit reluctantly, and agreed to pay a levy on their pensions that Brian Lenihan admitted at the weekend would provoke 'riots' in France.
This, after all, is the economic reality of the extraordinary times we live in.
