JOHN KIRWAN has dodged a few bullets during his time as All Black marauder and coach of Six Nations whipping boys Italy. Perhaps that explains his reaction following a death threat made against the governing body's president.

In fact, a police investigation is ongoing after Giancarlo Dondi, the head of the Italian Rugby Federation, received an unmarked letter at his Rome office which contained a live 12- calibre bullet with a message that read: 'Lose against Scotland and you will die.' Kirwan, who admits his own job could be on the line when Scotland arrive on Six Nations business next weekend, insisted he wouldn't be distracted by events leading up to the wooden-spoon decider.
