Sergeant Rutledge (1960) PG 2.10pm, Five John Ford redresses the racial balance in his lms with this western starring Woody Strode as a black of cer accused of murdering his white superior and then raping the man's daughter. Tokenism? Possibly, though Ford at half- cock is better than most directors giving it both barrels.

The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) PG 4pm, ITV1 The accent is on spectacle in Roger Moore's third Bond, the opening ski sequence actually being the best bit of the lm. Metal-mouthed Jaws (Richard Kiel) delivers the menace, Barbara Bach the sultry Bond-girl beauty and Carly Simon the iconic theme.
