BRITAIN is on the verge of handing control of nearly every major airport, including Heathrow and Gatwick, to a Spanish company.

After a bitter takeover battle BAA, the world's largest airport owner, yesterday agreed to a Pounds 10.3billion bid from Madrid- based firm Ferrovial.
