Sweeney Strikes to Hand Cork Vital Win After Longford's Early Onslaught

Summary

LONGFORD TOWN CORK CITY CORK City produced their best home performance of the season to come from two goals down and beat bottom club Longford Town in front of 2,500 excited fans at Turner's Cross last night.

Cork, with just two defeats in 11 were two down inside ten minutes but they staged a fine comeback to get level before halftime. They were stunned by Longford's brisk opening that yielded two goals as Colm James netted after six minutes after Mark McNulty parried his initial shot and, five minutes later, Sean Prunty scored with a left-footed drive into the top corner. Longford with five wins in eight looked to be heading to another big victory and adding the scalp of Cork to that of St. Pat's, Rovers and Bohemians. But City had other ideas and they were back in the ball game in the 18th minute when Denis Behan scored the first of his two goals.
