The definitive ranking must wait until the Government's school- by-school performance tables are published in the autumn.

Independent schools publish their results next week.

Here, the top 20 schools are ranked in order, with the rest listed alphabetically.

The number on the left before the school's name shows its overall position in the table.

Schools are ranked according to the combined percentage of A and B grades scored in A-levels or vocational equivalent.

Schools were also asked to provide an average university points score per pupil using the Universities and Colleges
