Summary
THE Normandy landings were the final blow against Nazi Germany, but as an engineer officer in the Merchant Navy, my father took part in several Allied amphibious landings which were every bit as dangerous, but are rarely mentioned.
Dad served on troopships and was involved in many troop movements worldwide. During May 5-7, 1942, he was present at the British landing in Madagascar, designed to forestall a Japanese move against this Indian Ocean island.
