IT WAS a full weekend of hockey action for the women at both international and domestic level. The Irish team lost both their openers on their six-match tour of South Africa, while on the home front league and cup fare in Leinster resumed after the Christmas layoff.
The Irish teams disappointed, going down 4-0 to the host South Africa on Saturday followed by a 3-1 defeat by the visiting Dutch Under 21s yesterday. These back to back defeats did little to boost the Irish players morale in their build up to Aprils Olympic qualifier in Canada. South Africa s clinical finishing was the principle factor that separated the sides but a higher degree of confidence was restored 24 hours later against the Dutch, after which Irish coach Gene Muller complimented his players.See the full content of this document
