POLICE forces are lowering entry standards in a desperate bid to meet the SNP's pledge of hiring an extra 1,000 officers, it was claimed yesterday.

Role-playing and trendy 'personality tests' are being brought in to replace the existing entrance exam - which includes mental arithmetic tests now deemed too tough for many young applicants.
