AT THE age of 26, I was 2st overweight, had permanent brain fog and suffered terrible depression. I finally went to my GP when a friend noticed a lump on my neck, which turned out to be an enlarged thyroid gland.
The thought of having to take a daily drug for life, combined with the weight gain, memory loss, fatigue and depression, was too much to bear, so I decided ignorance would be bliss; I consciously chose at the time not to read any books on the subject - I didn't want to know what my fate might be.
