THE Pope humbled George Bush with a strong public rebuke on Iraq yesterday as the war cast a shadow over the President's D-Day trip to Europe.

With antiwar protesters trying to disrupt Mr Bush's visit to Rome, the Pontiff condemned recent 'deplorable events' which Vatican officials confirmed was a reference to the shocking abuse of inmates at Abu Ghraib jail by U.S. soldiers.
