WHEN I see the cost of marrying these days, I shudder. And those Wedding Gift lists give me a break! While in the RAF, my late wife and I married in 1945. Her dress was loaned to her by a Forces charity and my mother-in-law paid five shillings (25p) per head for the reception in a Liverpool cafe.
Our gifts comprised of two 'Duchess Sets', a companion set (little brush, pan, poker and tongs), a carving knife and fork, a can-opener and two gifts of 5 notes, which paid for our stay at the Adelphi in Liverpool.See the full content of this document
