Summary
JOHN TERRY was preparing to offer David Beckham the England captaincy to mark his 100th cap for his country, but that decision has been taken out of his hands. The Chelsea captain fears he will spend up to three months on the sidelines after fracturing three bones in his right foot during the clubs 1-0 defeat at Arsenal on Sunday. Chelsea had claimed that Terry would only be out of action for six weeks, the club had mis-diagnosed the injury and claimed he had twisted ankle ligaments following Emmanuel Eboues crude challenge.
But a scan at their Cobham training ground yesterday revealed that he had actually fractured three bones in his right foot, including his third metatarsal. Chelseas club doctor Bryan English said: An x-ray taken straight after John left the field did not show the injury. However, as is usual with mid-foot injuries, the fractures were revealed following scans. His injury is likely to rule the England captain out of Fabio Capellos plans for his first game in charge a friendly against Switzerland on February 6.See the full content of this document
