JAMES TOSELAND became the youngest World Superbike champion in history by eclipsing title rival Regis Laconi on his home ground at Magny-Cours in France yesterday.

With thousands of partisan home fans cheering on his Ducati Fila team-mate, Briton Toseland - 24 tomorrow - put in a gutsy ride to win race one and come second in race two to clinch the title by nine points from Laconi.
