Triumph of 'That Wicked Woman

In eight days' time, on April 9, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall celebrate their first wedding anniversary. That chilly day in Windsor when they made their vows in the Guildhall was among the most controversial in recent royal history.

In many quarters, and particularly among those who were fond of the late Princess Diana, the bride was reviled and the marriage seen as a risk. The prevailing view was that if the former Mrs Camilla Parker Bowles was to pull it off and win over the people, it could take years - if she ever managed it at all.

But now even the Queen privately accepts that the lady she once dismissively referred to as 'that wicked woman', when her adultery with her son imperilled the throne, could one day be Queen alongside King Char...
