NOW, it's not often that I feel sorry for politicians -- particularly now that we know that their expense claims for moat- cleaning, horse manure, Corby trouser-presses and house-flipping would go some way towards paying off the national debt that Gordon Brown and his team have run up.

But I do feel for David Blunkett, poor soul. He turned up in the Commons last week with a black eye and a cracked rib after being bowled over by a rampant cow.
