RATHER than claim that all stateeducated students aren't thought good enough for Cambridge, perhaps Mrs Carter should consider that her son might not, perhaps, have performed well on the day.

I'm a state-school educated Year 13 pupil who has recently been through the Cambridge admissions process. Like Mrs Carter's son, I gained straight As in all my English literature, mathematics, history and geography modules at AS and am predicted As in all my A- levels.
