A colleague of mine has recently moved to my area and started to share my morning commute. He's perfectly pleasant, but the thought of making small talk for an hour with him on our train journey into work is agonising. I much prefer to spend my time slumped in my seat with a coffee and the morning paper. So far I've managed to avoid him by jumping on my train at the last minute after seeing which carriage he has chosen, but all this subterfuge is proving exhausting.
