ALL governments, Tory and Labour, instinctively loathe the BBC. All governments wish to clip its wings, make it toe the party line, be more 'respectful' towards its policies and actions.

And, of course, the reason why all governments loathe the Corporation is because they know that, in general, the voters trust the BBC far more than they trust politicians (or, indeed, print journalists).
