I WAS fascinated to see the lovely picture of Alison Uttley as a young woman (Mail) as I remember her only as an elderly lady, swathed in furs.

The occasion was a school fete in aid of the SPCK (Society for the Propagation of Christian Knowledge) at my boarding school, Oakdene, in Beaconsfield, Bucks, in about 1954.
