Summary
OUR Minister for European Affairs thinks we need a 'plain language, reader-friendly' version of the Lisbon Treaty. Which, of course, begs the question: Why didn't they give us one in the first place? But what is infinitely more sinister is the creeping assumption in both Government and EU circles that a democratic decision can somehow be reversed.
In other words, the overwhelming rejection of the treaty by the Irish electorate was a mistake. But if the naughty little children who made that mistake are told to do their homework again - and if, this time, it is spelt out to them in words of one syllable that they can all understand - then we will get the 'right' result.
