Summary
Frozen River (15) Verdict: Frosty feminist drama . .. .
FROZEN RIVER is a lowbudget indie picture that's being sold -- misleadingly -- as a crime thriller. Really, it's a low-key parable about two women's economic desperation, which leads them to smuggle immigrants from Canada to the U.S., across the frozen Saint Lawrence. Feminist writer-director Courtney Hunt keeps everything bleak, practical and, for the most part, unemotional. This is a barren landscape and the two anti-heroines never question the morality of what they are doing. They simply need to survive in a world where their menfolk have let them down.See the full content of this document
